Recommended stones for an engagement ring

What are the recommended stones for engagement ring?

Gemstones’ hardness varies according from one specie to another. It is in 1812 that the German geologist and mineralogist, Friedrich Mohs created the “Mohs Scale” characterizing scratch resistance of various minerals through the ability of harder material to scratch softer material.

Therefore, the harder the mineral the better it is to resist to daily wear and the better it is to set in jewelleries such as engagement rings. The top three mineral species we will find the hardest are the diamonds followed by the corundums (sapphires and rubies) and then the beryls (emerald). This last one remaining very fragile due to its crystal structure and not ideal on an everyday ring, even if at the top of the scale.

Although we do work directly with emerald, tourmaline, quartz and many other miners around the world, we always suggest to explore the large choice of natural coloured sapphires for engagement rings as we directly work with Sri Lanka and Madagascar miners specialising in mining these.

Blue, green, pink, violet, yellow, orange and many other coloured sapphires exist which could be part of your beautiful unique engagement ring making you as special as you are!
